For the past few months, Jeff and Penny's front yard has had holes and tunnels dug into it by a pest that left the surface holes plugged up with dirt. After finding out that a pocket gopher was the likely culprit, they dug open one of the cavities and filled it full of water from the garden hose. The animal came to the surface and died. It was about 6 inches long (the size of a small rat) and had beaver-like teeth, plus claws for digging (bottom photo).

This afternoon during lunch, the high school tennis team held a "car bash" fundraising event. For a dollar a hit, students and teachers were allowed to smack a junk car in the parking lot. Folks used sledgehammers, mauls, pickaxes, and crowbars to inflict the damage. The money went to help send the girls tennis team to the state tournament this coming weekend in Salt Lake City.

Hal's truck wouldn't start last week, so he had it towed to the garage. The mechanic used an electronic tester to pinpoint the source of the problem: a squirrel had crawled inside the engine area and had chewed some of the wiring. Bryan spliced the old wires together and the truck was as good as new!
