Jeff's mom Ann recently caught two nice rainbow trout at southern Utah's Panguitch Lake. The word "Panguitch" means "big fish" in the Paiute Indian language. Panguitch Lake (elevation 8.400 feet) was deliberately poisoned with rotenone a couple of years ago to rid the lake of unwanted "chubs," a sucker fish that had outnumbered the trout 100-to-1. Today, the lake once again has a healthy trout population and is a highly sought-after fishing spot.

Jeff's dad Frank and two youngest brothers Dave and Steve hiked to the top of Utah's Mt. Timpanogos again on Aug. 12. It was Frank's 13th trip to the 11,750-foot summit, Steve's 10th, and Dave's 9th. The hike took a total of 14.5 hours (9.5 hours to ascend to the top, and 5 hours to come back down). They ate two meals while on the trail.

The local high school cross-country teams participated in a meet this past Saturday at the local golf course. Eight schools participated, and Grand County High's boys and girls teams each took second place overall. Sam and Virginia's son John, a senior this year, is seen finishing the race in the middle photo.
