On their way to Fruita, Colorado on Saturday, Jeff and River spotted two bald eagles perched in a dead tree alongside the Colorado River. The bald eagle, the national bird of the United States, is no longer considered an endangered or threatened species, having made a remarkable comeback from a total population of fewer than 1,000 birds in the 1950s to an estimated 100,000 living across North America today. There are only about a dozen nesting pairs located in all of Utah, however, making this a rare sight to see. The bird on the right is likely the female, as they are on average 25 percent larger than their mates.

Penny entered this photo of Geneva in a nationwide "Beautiful Baby Search" sponsored by a popular daytime television show. Jeff took the photo a couple of weeks ago, on a cold afternoon. Despite the cold weather, Geneva smiled and posed for the camera.

Last week, Jeff took the on-line test to see if he could qualify to be a contestant on the popular TV quiz show Jeopardy!, hosted by Alex Trebek. This was the fifth or sixth time Jeff has taken a qualifying test, but he doesn't think he did very well this time. He'll have to wait another year before trying again.
